Love this deep sink—it’s perfect for my laundry room! Only downside was the leg height, which made it a bit wobbly. Fixed it by installing it on a low cabinet, and now it’s rock solid!

How to Choose Commercial Sinks for Your Business

Running water is a necessity that many of today's businesses take for granted. To use water for food preparation, cleaning dishes, and other tasks that your business needs to get done, you will first need to choose a sink that is right for you. Thankfully, there are plenty of options available in today's marketplace to pick a sink that meets your requirements perfectly.

Selecting the Right Number of Compartments

One of the first decisions that you will have to make when buying a sink is to choose how many compartments your sink will have. Standard sinks usually have two compartments to make washing easier. One compartment can be used for soapy water, and the other compartment can be used for rinsing. You could also consider a drop-in 3-compartment sink that gives you an extra compartment that can be used for either washing or rinsing. Some businesses also use drop-in 3-compartment sinks to stay organized while cleaning or to keep cookware away from harsh cleaning agents.

Commercial Sinks for Washing Hands

Of course, not all sinks are used for washing dishes or cleaning equipment. A commercial hand wash sink can help to keep your employees and customers safer. These sinks can also help your business meet regulatory standards to obtain a license or mitigate legal liability. Professional chefs usually want commercial stainless steel sinks in kitchens because these amenities are resistant to rust and corrosion. Stainless steel commercial sinks with drainboards are also usually preferable because these products can enable dishes and other items to dry quickly.

Commercial Utility Sinks

Utility sinks are designed to serve multiple roles. Whenever staff members need to clean items they use in the course of their work, they can use your utility sink. These sinks can also be used for handwashing. In factories and warehouses, businesses are usually required to place a commercial utility sink about every 100 feet in case of a chemical spill. Overall, having a utility sink is a basic requirement for most businesses that manufacture or handle physical products.

Choosing Sink Materials

When you buy kitchen equipment, it is important to choose products made from materials that look good and will remain durable over time. Therefore, you first have to decide whether you will mainly use your sink to wash hands, clean dishes, or handle dangerous substances. Stainless steel is ideal if you will subject your sink to significant abuse. Avoid ceramic materials if you could use acidic chemicals in the course of doing business. Plastics are also a good option to consider because they are resistant to many highly reactive substances and can save you money.

Making the Right Decision

When buying a sink for your business, the first step that you should take is to conduct serious research. Assess how your business will use your sink, and research what types of products meet your requirements. You should then add to cart several sinks that you think might be a good match for your business. Once you have a list of viable sinks, you can carefully analyze each product on your list to decide if it is right for you.

With enough research, you should be able to narrow down your selection to the exact sink that is perfect for you. Once you have chosen a sink that meets your requirements and will hold up over time, you can reap the benefits of having a great sink for years to come.

FAQ about Commercial Sinks

Cleanliness is next to godliness, as the saying goes, but it’s also rather close to tastiness. Home cooks and top chefs alike know the importance of proper sanitation in the kitchen, which is why commercial sinks are such a key piece of equipment in any food production space.

What are Commercial Sinks used for?

Commercial sinks are used for food preparation and cleaning, as you might expect, though they can also serve countless other purposes depending on your business, thanks to durable materials and multifunctional design. As well as scrubbing dishes and utensils, commercial sinks can be used as designated hand-washing stations. More generally, they can be used as utility sinks, which include the disposal of hazardous substances.

Why do you need Commercial Sinks for the kitchen?

Commercial sinks are simply more capable than standard units. Typically made from stainless steel, commercial kitchen sinks are specifically designed to withstand the busiest of cooking environments, all the while offering the best levels of sanitation. It’s especially important to install commercial sinks in a kitchen because they guarantee the standard of food hygiene mandated by various health codes. Aside from that, commercial sinks are just more convenient, able to accommodate a larger workload, and withstand the stronger cleaning agents of a commercial kitchen.

How Many Sinks does a Commercial Kitchen need?

The number of sinks needed in a commercial kitchen depends on a number of factors, including the scale of your business, the kinds of food being prepared, and the other functions of the kitchen space. In a professional kitchen, food is never prepared in the same sink used to clean dishes, thus even the smallest of restaurants will install at least two sinks. More units may be needed for higher-capacity catering. As well as the number of sinks in your kitchen, you’ll also want to consider what kinds of sinks are best for your business. Sinks with multiple compartments have greater functionality. They can be used to soak, rinse and sanitize dishware just as easily as they can be used to prepare multiple ingredients simultaneously.

Where to buy Commercial Sinks?

There are many suppliers of commercial sinks, though not all products you can find are built to the same quality, nor are all of these units capable of the same functions. Leading manufacturers like AmgoodSupply are able to guarantee the quality of materials, offering 18-gauge stainless steel sinks in numerous styles and sizes. With higher build quality, these companies offer products for a wider range of applications.
